Good afternoon my name is Andrew Lloyd current CEO of the Luxor hotel Melbourne and we are here today to emphasise the importance of operating at high standards of performance and implore environmentally and socially sustainable practices, in particular the section of housekeeping. The first step to minimising waste management within the context of house keeping is by implementing an extensive waste management system to sort recyclables from general waste, Bohdanowicz (2005) claims that such an implementation can minimise unsorted waste from three kilograms per guest per night to half a kilogram. Another prominent example of how the Luxor Melbourne can minimise their waste output is by offering their unwanted furniture, linen and towels to charities or those who are less fortunate who would put the materials to better use and minimise operational costs.
