Studies have shown that increased intake of Omega-3 in fish oil is linked to greater volume in areas of the brain, which is associated with mood elevation and regulation and a reduction in depression. Doctors may recommend supplements to people with bipolar disorder, including flaxseed oil and Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish oils. I have not yet noticed any effects positive or negative. Im considering increasing to 10 grams/day as my psychiatrist informs me that seems to be the more beneficial range if I can tolerate the gastric side effects. â"Nan Positive Experience With Omega-3 I have been using fish oil and melatonin for several months and the fish oil really works. â"KathyMy loved-one was taking fish oils and it seemed to work for him. I havent bought any for about a month and I have seen my loved-one go down hill. I think Ill buy some more. They believe that the most important conflict is between the Bourgeoisies and the Proletariats. The bourgeoisies are the capitalist class that own most of societyââ¬â¢s means and productions. Whereas the proletariats are the working class people. Social class is used to explain how and why societies change. Class conflict is where change occurs through the opposition of the social classes as what they see to be collective interests in society. However, Marxism believes that the capitalism can only thrive on the mistreatment of the working class. The bourgeoisies are what Marxists believe dominate society as they are the ones that make the profit. Marxism believes that capitalism is not only an economic system but also a political system. Marxist theory finds it difficult to explain the presence of certain phenomena (for example Kerry Katona has lots of money but is from a working class background). I think it is fair to say that most people take a lot of things for granted but when you pause and analyze lifeââ¬â¢s events it can be an eye opener and really get you thinking about how certain career decisions have created a pathway for your career and at life-space. Gets a little scary when you think back on how one or two decisions could have really swayed your career. I think back to my first few years as a working adult and how some of those early influences really set me on a path forward I spent a good amount of time reviewing Donald Superââ¬â¢s theory of career development and the life-span/life-space theory. I especially agree with the point that career decisions are not isolated from other aspects of our lives. When you talk about career development it starts off as a very broad subject and people take all kind of different paths to develop their careers. In my case I started working at UPS right out of high school and it was just a ââ¬Å"jobâ⬠at first and that is all I expected. The word ââ¬Å"careerâ⬠never entered my thinking, alls I knew is that I had graduated high school and my Mother old me that I had to get a job so off to UPS I went. That decision was the first major influence in my adult life, what I didnââ¬â¢t realize back then was that going to UPS instead of, letââ¬â¢s say getting a job at a small business was a huge factor in my career development. UPS is obviously a very big company and they tend to hold onto the oneââ¬â¢s they want to develop which was very important to me. If I decided to work for a small family owned business as my first job things could have been very different. I am always very thankful for that decision I made and the people at UPS who took me under their wing and helped develop my career at UPS. A major factor in oneââ¬â¢s career development is to put themselves in a position to grow and or be surrounded by good people or good companies that will help you grow. Easier said then done, when you are young sometimes you donââ¬â¢t realize or are not looking into the future but for me that a critical decision which started my career. My first couple of years with UPS I was still just a kid, but by the time I turned 20 Understanding and Applying Adult Development Theory 3 I was what they called a part-time supervisor which was another critical decision/influences in my career. I can remember back to that day when I almost turned down the job because I had long hair and didnââ¬â¢t want to cut it off. UPS had a, no hair past you collar rule for men and I really almost turned down the position because of this. Once got past the long hair issue things really started taking off the next few years as I moved around in different management roles to build my skill set. The most influential director I ever worked for was a lady by the name of Mary Finnigan, I still remember her name, she use to hound me all the time about school and when am going to enroll in college. That is what I mean by good people around you, good companies have good people and they will give you that extra push when you need one. Not sure I ever would have gone to college if she wasnââ¬â¢t all over me about it all the time. Again, she was looking at the big picture regarding developing my career and I was still just looking at it as a job. All of this was happening during Superââ¬â¢s Exploration stage of career development. I was trying to understand what I wanted to do as far as a career. I was part of the union for year which I did not like very much, I was part of management for about four years during this period and really enjoyed the challenges of the job but still had a hard time with the style of management and people telling me what to do all the time, looking over my shoulder all the time, and just the overall ââ¬Å"The beatens will Understanding and Applying Adult Development Theory 4 continue until morale improvesâ⬠management style. UPS use to have something called MBOââ¬â¢s which was ââ¬Å"management by objectivesâ⬠but the joke was that it was really MBI, ââ¬Å"management by intimidationâ⬠. As I moved toward the end of my exploration stage I realized I had to make a career decision/change. Although I very much enjoyed the high pressure atmosphere and the thrill of success I knew that I didnââ¬â¢t respond well to that sort of management style as it was very draining for me and started having a negative effect. As I moved into the establishment phase of Superââ¬â¢s theory I made a bold move and agreed to start college as per Maryââ¬â¢s request. Once I finished my second semester UPS granted my approval to move from the operations to sales which was huge for me and where I excelled. For the first time I started thinking of UPS Sales as a career and not just a job. I also got married, bought a house, and had a child in the first few years of this stage. As my career in sales got going it create a lot of stability in my live, somehow in operations you never had the feeling of security do to the management style but now I did. Career and personal lives are very much integrated together, the feeling of a career and not just a job somehow settles you down and you start looking at live in a different perspective. Although I owe a lot to UPS and people like Mary I made the decision to leave UPS and to join FedEx. That was the hardest but most important career decision I have ever made. With UPS I had 10 years in, I was doing well, had security, things were going well. Making career changes not only affected me but all affected my family and it was scary leaving something you knew was there for something unknown. But it all worked out very well, FedEx is a much younger company, a sales driven company, which fits my style better. I have not entered the maintenance stage yet and wonââ¬â¢t for another 5 years but if I had to disagree with any of Superââ¬â¢s five stages this would be one that I would disagree with somewhat. If your goal is to just holding onto an achieved job I think you are going to fail in todayââ¬â¢s world. The world is very different today and if you are past 45 in corporate America sitting still and just holding onto a job that means you are going backwards. Maybe when you hit 60 I could understand that thinking but not in your mid-40ââ¬â¢s or 50ââ¬â¢s. Corporations are very aggressive these days and wouldnââ¬â¢t allow someone to just to hold onto an achieved job. Maybe this is where a smaller company would think or act differently then a large corporation who has to answer to shareholders each quarter. There are many different roads people travel, for the last twenty years mine has been in corporate America working for Fortune 500 companies, I expect that I would continue down this road hopefully with FedEx. For me personally, I would belief that I will not settle into a holding pattern once I enter my mid-forties. I still feel very young in my career and am still learning new things everyday and I think that will continue for some time to come. This report gives some information from three main areas: exams, presentation, and writing by asking students who are already studied for 1st year about their study experience in the University during their studies. A questionnaire has been used in data collection as a methodology of data collection. Samples were taken randomly from the 1st year students who have completed the first year of their studies. The results are tabulated and bar graph has been used for analysis. There are some recommendations which have been made following the analyzed data. Introduction In this report the focus is in finding out about the life at the B.U. and how the students relate to the academic life in the University. There are many areas in the University which can affect the general life and the academic life of a student. Bangor is a great University and is found all over the city. Most parts are within and you can walk from one place to the other. Each department has a library which has a connection to it, computer equipment and the facilities and a general room. All the rooms are single-roomed; some have data-points and showers whilst others have facilities common. The main site has computer rooms for the whole site, whilst the other halls have a few computers in the hall itself (Goodson and Sikes 2001). The course is of great value even if a lot of effort is needed especially at the end of the term. Outside of lectures there are Practical work which has to be done and write up and tutorials to go through questions in smaller groups (Elgersman 2005). The exams are not too long, shorter than some of the A-level ones. Most sports are catered to, and many are more sedate ranging from Drama to Beer drinking. The countryside has a very great a esthetic value and the snow crowns it all. This does give Bangor its only drawback: the number of hills. Though, it is a brilliant place to study (Fitzpatrick 2011). Having have given that small detail about the University, I can say that the main reason for doing this study is to provide enough information which will be useful to the incoming students both from within the country and for the international students. Aim The objective of this study is to make a study on the studentsââ¬â¢ views about B.U. These are those who have at least completed their 1st year, concerning study and general life at the university. The report look at the views of the students and this information is then analyzed to get the overall view of the students about their study life at Bangor University. Methodology of the study This study has been done using the questionnaires. Some samples have been collected to be used in the study. Random samples were collected from the students who have completed the ir 1st year of study at the University. The data collection was carried out inside the B.U. This is because most of the 1st year students reside within the University and this could make data collection much easier hence saving on the time and the cost of data collection. Some questions were used in order to obtain accurate and reliable information. The number of the students who gave information on the questionnaire was 10 and was samples randomly (McBride 1996). Results All the 10 students gave some gen eral comment about the studies and life at B.U. concerning the exams, presentation and writing, general comments were good average and bad. The number and the general response are given in form of a table in order to make an easy analysis of the general response. In the exams part, about half of the students sampled feel that the exams are good. On average stand were about 40% and only few thought that exams are bad or hard. Comparing the exams, presentations and the writing work, many students felt that the writing work is good followed by the presentations and then the exams (Curran 1984). Discussion It is evident that many students at the University do not like exams very much. They prefer writing work and presentations. This could be due to the fact that most students donââ¬â¢t take enough time to prepare for the exams hence developing that negative attitude towards the exams. Hence it is very important for any student considering joining B.U. to learn to plan their time well so that they could have enough time for the exams preparation. Presentations are liked by many students. This could be due to adequate computer facilities in the University hence the students donââ¬â¢t find it difficult to prepare for their presentations. This is a very important source of information for the incoming st udents. They donââ¬â¢t have to worry about the accessibility to the computer facilities because the resource is well established at the B.U. Writing is rated very high compared to the exams and the presentations. This could be due to many reference materials which are at the University library. The new students and those purposing to come to the University should be aware of the good study materials at the University which can be utilized. The exams, presentations and writing are the different parts in learning which all students must be involved in. Hence all the students have a part to play in striving to have a positive attitude towards learning. This information should be clear enough to all the incoming students so that they should set their attitude right from the very beginning of their studies. And this will be well reflected in the exams taken and in the assignments. In this discussion is important to give a brief history of the university which will be a very useful pie ce of information for the new students at B.U. The University of Bangor was established in the 19th century. This was meant to offer higher education in Bangor. Currently there are many students and teaching and other members of the University staff. Recommendation Before coming to the University I would recommend the new students to: Know about the student life and accommodation in the University Be aware of the assignment deadlines and how they should meet t hem Know the time they are supposed to meet their tutors and attending the lectures Know how to deal with the exams pressure and be able to organize themselves well To be aware of the examination schedule and how teachings are conducted What is expected of every student concerning the academics The history of the B.U and administration of the University What are the major factors which lead students to have attitude towards exams Be aware of the University location in the city and the surrounding environment (Roberts 2004). Conclusion In conclusion we can say that the students at Bangor University have different views concerning the academic life at the University. There are those who like or dislike the exams. There are those who like the presentations more than writing the assignments. Therefore this study has been effectively done. It has shown the different aspects of academic life at Bangor University. This information is very vital to the students who in one way or the other are considering pursuing their studies at the University. They will have a general knowledge of what they expect to see at B.U and what will be expected of them. The new students will therefore not waste any of their precious time so as to avoid a great rush in exam preparation and the pressure which cones with the exams. For a well organized and a focused student, life at B.U can be very comfortable and the students can achieve their set goals without much struggle. B.U can provide a very suitable studying environment for both local and the international students. In case of any difficulties in the revision for the exams, students can consult the teaching staff.
